Key Won’t Turn Ignition

If your key won’t turn the ignition, there are a few things you can do to fix the problem. First, check to see if the steering wheel is locked. If it is, try wiggling the wheel back and forth until it unlocks. If that doesn’t work, try jiggling the key in the ignition until it turns. If neither of those work, then you may need to call a tow truck or auto mechanic.

Check the Steering Wheel

If your key won’t turn the ignition, there are a few things you can check yourself before calling a tow truck or mechanic. The first thing to check is the steering wheel. Make sure it is not locked. Sometimes the steering wheel can become stuck in one position and will not move. If this is the case, try wiggling the steering wheel back and forth until it loosens up. If the steering wheel is not locked, then the next thing to check is the ignition switch.

Check the Key

If your key won’t turn the ignition, the first thing you should check is the key itself. Make sure that the key is not bent or damaged in any way. If it is, then it may not be able to properly fit into the ignition. If the key looks OK, then try wiggling it a bit as you turn it. This can sometimes help to jiggle it into the correct position.

Check the Ignition Switch

If your key won’t turn the ignition, there are a few things you can check to see what the problem might be. One is the ignition switch itself. If it’s worn out, it may not be making good contact with the key. Another possibility is that the wiring to the switch is loose or damaged.

If neither of those is the problem, then it’s possible that the problem is with the key itself. Sometimes keys can get bent or otherwise damaged, which can prevent them from turning the ignition switch properly. If that’s the case, you’ll need to get a new key made.

Try Another Key

If your key won’t turn the ignition, try another key. If that doesn’t work, check to see if the steering wheel is locked. If it is, try moving it back and forth to see if that unlocks it. If neither of those work, your best bet is to call a tow truck or a locksmith.
